*In exchange for an unbiased review of their product, Hello Fresh sent me 3 meals to try out.
I had never heard of Hello Fresh before our review team leaders brought this opportunity to us. I was really interested in trying this one out because, hello! It’s food and who wouldn’t want to try out a service that involves that? I eagerly anticipated my week so that I could sign up for the box I would receive. When it came time to choose, I found the website interface to be really well laid out and easy to use. All I had to do was choose the type of box. The two choices were the classic box or the vegetarian box. I chose the classic box since my husband and I are meat eaters and I thought he might enjoy fish for a change. I do not like seafood, so I decided the one meal that contained fish would be for my husband and daughter to try. What I really liked was that I could change out some of the choices with the alternate dishes.
How does Hello Fresh work?
You sign up for the service and then choose your box. Each box contains everything you will need to cook your meal. (except for olive oil or salt & pepper) They also give you beautiful cards with the ingredients and recipes. You pay for it via credit card and then it is shipped to you. It is THAT easy!
How is it shipped? Does the meat and fish stay cold?
Absolutely! Hello Fresh ensures that each box is tightly packed, first with a heavy insulated layer and then at least three ice packs. These are not your normal little ice packs. These are really big and heavy duty packs. In fact, I have stored them in my freezer to reuse when we go to the beach next summer. I live in the south where it gets pretty hot and even with the box being left on our porch, the food was still very cold.
Our box came with all the ingredients for Zucchini Parmagiana, Dill Crusted Tilapia and Apricot Glazed Turkey. Below you will see some of the pictures from our meals. Everything was delicious! That includes the tilapia which my husband said was out of this world! I am a big fan of eggplant parmagiana, so I was eager to try the zucchini. It was delicious and so much lighter than the eggplant usually is. It is going to be a definite repeat dish in our house!
At about $69.99 for three meals, the price is a bit steep for my family of four. The food definitely was only for 2 and actually with a husband who is a personal trainer who needs more calories, we could have used two more meals. But at the same time, if you are not one to cook and usually spend your money in restaurants, this could be an actual time and money saver for you.
