Princesses? YUCK! (Things to Do With Your Little Pirates in WDW)

When you close your eyes and think of Walt Disney World, what do you imagine? My guess is that the picture in your head has a castle, lots of beautiful princesses in flowing gowns and maybe, just maybe. Mickey Mouse. Was I correct? Well, for boys (like my son!), Disney is not about those things at all! Walt Disney World from a boy’s perspective is completely different. They think of the classic characters like Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and gang, Toy Story, Cars and last but not least, pirates! It used to be the only pirates involved with Disney were those from Pirates of the Caribbean. Not anymore! With the launch of Disney Jr., the characters from Jake and the Neverland Pirates have become quite a popular crew among young boys(and girls!). There are plenty of things for a boy to do at Disney that is not covered in twinkling pixie dust and jewels! And for that, my son is eternally grateful! 🙂 Let’s talk about character dining…sure it’s great to have a good meal anywhere, but it’s even better when you get to visit with some characters! I’m not saying there aren’t boys that like princesses and things like that, but speaking from my own experience of raising a boy, my son and most of his friends would rather spend their time playing with cars, army men and pirates! So, who can your swashbuckling, little pirate meet at Disney that would make his experience that much more enjoyable? At character meals, your pirate can meet Mickey & friends, Special Agent Oso, Handy Manny, Jake (yes, THAT Jake!), Stitch, Mr. Smee, & Captain Hook (Smee and Hook are on a Fireworks Cruise).

Now, if you want to truly knock your pirate off his feet, head on over to Adventureland for Pirate’s League. He will be made over into his choice of pirates. Next, he will go through a pirate lesson, have his photo taken and finish by participating in the Parade of Pirates! (additional fee required) If you take a break from the parks and go to Downtown Disney, be sure to check out the huge Lego store (kids can have fun playing with the Legos!) or if you are hungry, try T-Rex or Rainforest Cafe! Maybe your son wants to get a haircut…stop at Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom for an inexpensive haircut. For just a little bit more, he can have cool color put on his hair. I’ve seen adults get this done as well! Always a great treat! So, think back to what you first thought about Walt Disney World… I bet you never imagined how much there was for everyone! (and that’s just a tiny bit of what your little pirate can enjoy!)
