Fantasyland Expansion In Progress

At the D23 Expo on September 12, 2009, Disney announced plans for a major expansion of Fantasyland.  Now, it’s 2012 and Walt Disney World has begun the process of opening sections of these long-anticipated changes.

First up was Storybook Circus. This section is now home to a dual Dumbo ride complete with an interactive queue area. Yes, there are fast pass tickets.  BUT, no more waiting in long lines with possibly cranky children (or adults). You will be given a circus ticket pager and then off your kids go…into the new play area. What an incredible idea! I know my kids are going to want to go to the play area just to play and not necessarily ride Dumbo.  When it’s time for you to ride, you pager lets you know and voila! You’re on the ride.  Hassle-free! I love it!

Do your children love water play areas as much as mine do? Let them enjoy the new Casey J. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station.  Just make sure you bring a set of extra clothes!

For those who love Snow White, you have lost one ride, Snow White’s Scary Adventures and gain the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train set to open in 2014.

The major part of the expansion has to do with the princesses.  Belle and Little Mermaid will finally get their own attractions. MamaMouse is ecstatic about what is planned for Belle! I cannot wait to walk in Belle’s Village, eat in the Be Your Guest restaurant which is sure to be AMAZING,  stop by Gaston’s Tavern (although he is sooo annoying!) and visit Maurice, her dad’s, cottage! I guess you might be able to tell which princess is my favorite!  The princesses are also being given their very own spot to Meet and Greet their fans.

According to Walt Disney World, these are the most up to date openings:

  • July 2012: Both sides of Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Dumbo’s big top tent queue, and the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station kids’ water play area
  • Holidays 2012:Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Be Our Guest Restaurant, Gaston’s Tavern, and Ariel’s Grotto
  • 2013: Princess Fairytale Hall (meet-and-greet area)
  • 2014: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction

I can’t wait to check out all of the amazing things that the imagineers have dreamed up!
